Toutatis is an earthy asteroid.
Due to its eccentric orbit, there is a regular approach between the asteroid and the earth every four years. In December of 2016, the next approach is expected.
If a large object from space collides with the earth, it could cause an enormous global chaos. Whole cities or even entire countries could be destroyed.
The blast waves which are caused at its fall trough atmosphere would be enormous.

It’s comparable with an explosion of an atomic bomb.
